ASCA Professional Coaching Structure
The ASCA Pro Structure launched in 2007 was created to identify individuals who possess the qualifications and experience to design and implement safe and effective strength and conditioning programs for athletes either in an individual or team environment. By adopting this Professional Coaching Structure, ASCA Professional Coaches will be distinguished and recognised as working within the recognised sporting structures.
Since the launch in 2007 160 Coaches have successfully applied for recognition within the 5 Levels of the Pro Structure. The AIS/SIS/SAS and a number of sports have also adopted the Pro Structure as a criteria for employment opportunities.
The ASCA Professional Coaches Association
The ASCA has recently formed the ASCA Professional Coaches Association that not only recognises the skill and experience of the coaches but provides additional benefits to this unique group including additional discounts on all of the ASCA services and products in addition to other professional development opportunities and legal advice in regards to Contract/Work Place negotiations.
The ASCA Professional Coach Association held its inaugural meeting at the 2011 International Conference on Applied Strength and Conditioning chaired by ASCA Board Member, David Boyle. This meeting was attended by 38 semi-professional and professional S & C Coaches. A number of issues were raised and the ASCA is currently working with Lander and Rogers Lawyers to address some of these issues through provision of a Draft Coach Contract which will be made available to all members of the Professional Coach Association.
As this was the main topic of discussion at the 2011 Meeting the ASCA has invited Garth Towan from Lander and Rogers to present at the 2012 Conference. Garth will also be available for one on one discussions during the Conference to our Professional Coaches Association Members.
Other areas that the ASCA is currently working on to address the issues raised include:
- Promotion of the Professional Coach Association to all CEO's of National Sports
- Permission to use the ASCA Professional Coaching Association Logo
- Coordination of State Based professional development meetings
- Work towards an Award for S and C Coaches (recommended renumeration rates are already available)
