Updating

What is Updating?

Most coaches registered with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) through the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association are registered for a four year period.  Coaches are required to continue their education during their period of accreditation and accrue updating points by actrively coaching and attending appropriate coach education activities:

Why Update?

Updating aims to ensure quality coaching by maintaining current knowledge and practice:

  • Updating ensures that coaches stay abreast of rule changes
  • Updating also keeps coaches in contact with the most up-to-date techniques and coaching methods.
  • Updating plays an important role in ensuring that the coaching environment is safe for all participants and reduces the likelihood of coaches becoming involved in legal actions.
  • Updating provides the ASCA with an up-to-date register of active register

How does Updating work?

When a coach received a NCAS accreditation card after completing a course the update clock starts. The coach will be advised of the expiry date of their accreditation.  The ASCA has specific updating activities (ASCA updating Policy) that you are required to undertaken in order to remain an accredited coach.

How are Updating Activities are recorded?

You should use the NCAS or ASCA Updating Log Book to record all updating activities.  The ASCA provides all coaches with a copy of the ASCA Updating Policy and Submission Form in course packs, however additional copies can be downloaded from this website.

Take this book with you to any updating activity and have it signed by the course coordinator.

Coaches should record all their updating activities on this submission form and send to the ASCA prior to the expiry date shown on their NCAS Resigration Card together with documentation to support their submission.

The Updating Submission Form can also be downloaded here

Cost of Updating

The ASCA and NCAS fee of $26.20 for a further four (4) years registration plus $88.50 for 12 months membership renewal in the ASCA for those coaches whose membership in the ASCA is not current = $114.70.
